Efficiency of Banking Operations in an Economy: The Application of Fault Tolerant Computer System in Enhancing Online Transaction (Ekeng A. B., Orok-Duke O. E., Edet E. F.)

Abstract This paper examines the implications of the introduction of Fault Tolerant computer System for enhancing of online banking operations toward efficiency in an economy. The study made use of selected Banks such as Intercontinental Bank Plc., United Bank for Africa and First Bank of Nigeria Plc. for the analysis of the problem. The model for this study was estimated using the econometric method of Ordinary Least Square. The paper reveals among others, that online banking operations have a strong influence in the determination of banking efficiency. Towards this end, the paper recommends that innovation policies should focus on how to establish and maintain online banking for bank efficiency. The paper therefore concludes that the introduction of internet banking would not only improve banking operations, but will also attract large number of customers to imbibe banking culture for the accumulation of investable funds for economic development.
